- 1 apple, peeled and finely diced
- 2 tbsp butter
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- ½ tsp cinnamon
- ¼ cup water
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch baking pan.
- In a bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt together.
- In another bowl, cream softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla and sour cream or yogurt.
- Gradually add dry ingredients to wet mixture until combined. Fold in diced apples.
- Pour batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
- For the crumb topping, mix brown sugar, flour, and cinnamon; cut in cold butter until crumbly. Sprinkle over batter.
- Bake for 40–45 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine diced apple, butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, and water. Cook until apples are soft and mixture thickens slightly (about 5–7 minutes).
- Once the cake has cooled completely, drizzle the warm apple mixture over it before serving.
