- 5 medium/large apples (Granny Smith & Macoun)
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1/4–1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- Homemade pie crust or biscuit dough
Instructions
- Prepare the filling by peeling, coring, and chopping the apples. Mix them with lemon juice, brown sugar, granulated sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a bowl.
- Melt butter in a pan over medium heat and cook the apple mixture for about 3 minutes until slightly softened.
- Roll out your pie crust or biscuit dough on a floured surface to about 1/8 inch thick. Cut out circles.
- Spoon apple filling onto one half of each circle and fold over to seal. Crimp edges with a fork if desired.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Place hand pies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 15–20 minutes until golden brown.
