  • 1 cup (125 g) all-purpose flour, spooned and leveled
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2/3 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 2 3/4 cups (345 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup (226 g) unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 3/4 cup (150 g) light brown sugar, packed
  • 2/3 cup (130 g) granulated sugar
  • 1 egg, plus 1 egg yolk, room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a stand mixer, cream room temperature butter and light brown sugar until fluffy. Add egg and vanilla, mixing well.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt before gradually adding it to the wet mixture along with chocolate chips.
  4. For the chocolate chip cookie layer, beat cold cubed butter with sugars until fluffy; add eggs and vanilla, then mix in dry ingredients and chocolate chips.
  5. Scoop both doughs into balls (chocolate chip slightly larger), press together, and place on baking sheets.
