Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 medium yellow onions
  • ½ pound ground beef
  • 1 cup Gruyere cheese (shredded)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 ½ teaspoons chicken hamburger seasoning
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Peel and hollow out the onions, leaving about half an inch on all sides.
  3. In a skillet, melt butter with 1 tablespoon olive oil. Place hollowed onions cut side down and cook until lightly browned (about 5 minutes). Flip and sprinkle with kosher salt; cook for another 5 minutes.
  4. In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, chicken hamburger seasoning, garlic powder, black pepper, and Worcestershire sauce until well mixed.
  5. Stuff each onion with the beef mixture tightly and place them in a baking dish cut side up. Drizzle with remaining olive oil and cover with foil.
  6. Bake for about 45 minutes. Uncover, add cheese on top of each onion, and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
