Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 8-ounce packages cream cheese, at room temperature
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs, at room temperature
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 15.25 ounce white cake mix, or use your favorite white cake recipe
  • Water, oil, and eggs according to directions on the box
  • 1 teaspoon unsweetened cocoa powder (optional)
  • Red gel food coloring
  • Blue gel food coloring
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • 4 1/2 to 5 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 to 5 tablespoons milk or heavy cream
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla (use clear vanilla if you want your frosting really white)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 325°F (163°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. For the cheesecake layer, beat cream cheese and sugar until smooth. Mix in flour, eggs (one at a time), sour cream, and vanilla until combined. Pour evenly into prepared pans.
  3. Prepare the white cake mix according to package instructions and pour over the cheesecake layer in both pans.
  4. Bake for about 60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Let cool for 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
  5. For frosting, beat butter until creamy, gradually adding powdered sugar and milk until desired consistency is reached. Divide into three bowls; color one red, another blue.
  6. Once cooled, stack layers with frosting in between and decorate the top as desired.
